This was the weekend that President Obama and his family came to visit Yosemite. When I found out just 2 weeks prior to the wedding I knew I was in for a challenge. I arrived in Yosemite 2 1/2 hours before the scheduled start time. I found that the secret service had blocked the road leading to the wedding chapel. I went back and found parking 2 miles from the blocked intersection. This was 4 miles from the church, but I still had 90 minutes before the start of the ceremony. I grabbed my equipment and started walking toward the church.  Once I arrived at the intersection that was closed, the secret service was opening it up, so I walked back up the road to my car and was able to drive in and arrived 15 minutes before the ceremony. Only the Groom, Javier was there. Unable to drive his car, he walked to the church from his cabin in the valley. Family started to arrive about the time the ceremony was scheduled to start. The bride, Alexis, also had to walk part of the way to the church. Eventually most of the family was able to get to the church, so at 1/2 an hour after the planned start time the wedding began. Sad to say that the father of the bride was still stuck in traffic caused by the road closures and missed the wedding. He was looking forward to walking his daughter down the aisle. After the ceremony we spent some time taking photos on the valley floor and then we headed up to their reception at Tenaya lodge.

Anthony is a big Star Wars fan, and Lora loves great outdoor locations. Yosemite was the perfect location for them. Yosemite is one of the few sites on earth where Imperial Walkers are allowed to roam free. Fortunately, we were able photograph this pair walking through the meadow near the wedding chapel.

Both Amy and Jordan very much enjoy the great outdoors and Yosemite Valley is one of their favorite parks. Jordan proposed to Amy at the top of the Yosemite’s famous half dome rock formation. Amy and Jordan wanted a small wedding in the Yosemite valley and choose the Valley Chapel Church. This Church has been operating in Yosemite for 135 years. Having a smaller wedding allowed us more time for photos of the happy couple. Often with a busy wedding day schedule I am given only a few minutes to take photos of the couple by themselves. It was a real pleasure to spend more than an hour driving around the valley and photographing the couple in some of their favorite spots including this photo below with half dome in the background….

Fall is a beautiful time of year for a wedding in the Yosemite valley. The fall colors were out in force and the weather was perfect. The wedding was held at the Yosemite Valley Chapel. The reception was held about 15 minutes away at the Garden Terrace Room at the Yosemite Lodge. DJ John Piazza did a fantastic job running the reception party train. The music and lights made the party come alive!

Congratulations to Aaron and Jenny on their beautiful Wawona hotel wedding. I normally arrive early to weddings to allow me to walk around and gather ideas for the days shoot. The park service had other ideas and I ended up waiting an hour at the park entrance. If you are planning a Saturday wedding during the summer months, make sure all your guests and vendors are in the park before noon!

The Wawona hotel and surrounding area is just such a pretty location. I am so happy that Jenny and Aaron wanted to spend so much time with their photos. We spent over an hour just doing photos of the two of them in and around the hotel grounds. We also did some fun night photos on the golf course across the street from the hotel.
