Aerial Equipment

In 2015 and 2016 I used primarily the DJI Inspire 1 for my aerial work. In 2017 I'll be using the new DJI flagship Inspire 2. This aircraft is capable of carrying a larger camera payload and keep it in the air longer, with even more stability and precision. With up to 25 minutes of flight time while carrying the X4S camera and 20 minutes while carrying the X5S camera. This means both better photos and video!

The X4S camera is equipped with a 1" sensor similar to the those found in Sony's RX100 line of cameras. This camera has a 20 megapixel stills sensor, 11.6 stops of dynamic range and a 24mm lens with a 84 degree field of view. The aperture is adjustable from f/2.8 - f/11

The X5S camera comes with a 4/3" sensor and has 12.8 stops of dynamic range with a 20 megapixel still image output. It has a usable ISO range of 100 to 6400. The primary lens is a 15mm which works out to 30mm in 35mm equivalent. This gives it a field of view of 72 degrees. The aperture is adjustable from f/1.7 - f/16

In addition to the Inspire, I also use a DJI Mavic. This smaller & lighter aircraft is useful for flying in or around areas that are tight and confined or that pose a greater risk to the aircraft, such as indoors. This aircraft weight just 1.6 lbs. It's 1/2.3" gimbal stabilized CMOS sensor is capable of recording video in 4k/2.7K/1080/720 at 30 fps, at max bit rate of 60Mbps in h.264 format. Still image resolution is 12 megapixel. The lens is a fixed f/2.2 28mm (non fisheye) with a 78 degree field of view.
